5.11 Tactical is an American company that makes and sells tactical apparel and gear for law enforcement, first responders, military personnel, and recreational enthusiasts. The company was originally founded by rock climber Royal Robbins in 1979 and was named after the most difficult rock climb grade in the Yosemite Decimal System. It became known for its durable pants that were adopted by the FBI Academy in the 1990s, leading to its expansion into a "tactical" brand, and is now owned by Compass Diversified Holdings.
